First Aid For Difficult Feelings: Manual and game

This package supports teachers in teaching children helping skills. Children learn to help and support other children who are having a more difficult time.

As a teacher you can make children skilled in offering 'First Aid for Difficult Feelings' to each other. This means that children learn to help and support their friend, classmate or teammate when they are struggling psychologically.

Throughout the curriculum, five key messages are worked on:

  • recognize something fishy (how can you see that someone is feeling a little less);
  • normalize difficult feelings (how do you let someone know it's okay to feel 'not okay');
  • offer support (how you can act to help);
  • call for help if something is wrong (how do you decide together who you can turn to);
  • maintaining good contact and self-care (how do you continue to take care of yourself, if you help others).
